A registered sex offender escaped a psychiatric hospital in Texas this week and remains on the run, police have said.
McArthur Deashy Mathis escaped from the Cross Creek Psychiatric & Addiction Hospital in Austin by kicking open a back door and jumping a six foot fence, according to officials.
Police in Grimes County, Texas, are still searching for Mathis, who was last seen on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
Grimes County Sheriff Don Sowell said in a statement: “Not only does this individual have some tendencies to be violent possibly, actually with his background… he’s out there in the public, and we have a public safety issue, and I worry some innocent person may be victimized.”

Mathis was arrested in January accused of multiple crimes in Victoria and Grimes counties.
Anyone who believes they have information about Mathis’s whereabouts is urged to contact the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office at 936-873-2151 or Grimes County CrimeStoppers on 936-873-2000.
