Texas Tech Official Responds to LSU-Joey McGuire Rumor
LSU’s national coaching search has been slow-going while the school works through its buyout process with former head coach Brian Kelly.

The Tigers appear to have their eyes set on Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin. However, Kiffin is still with the Rebels and is the No. 1 target for Florida.
There have been a few rumors popping up on social media in recent weeks that a private jet connected to LSU has visited Lubbock. The implication is that the Tigers have an interest in Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire.

McGuire has the No. 6 Red Raiders 10-1 after beating UCF 48-9 on Saturday. TTU has a good shot at making the College Football Playoff if it defeats West Virginia on Nov. 29 and appears in the Big 12 championship.
On Sunday, @4ever_LSU posted another rumor on X about LSU and McGuire.
“LSU’s private jet was “supposedly” seen at a Lubbock airport …. Ladies and gentlemen, I’d like to introduce the next head football coach at LSU — Coach Joey McGuire. All kidding aside, I wouldn’t be angry at this!!” they wrote.
Texas Tech Chairman of the Board of Regents and booster Cody Campbell dispelled the rumor Sunday evening.
“Sorry, bub. Good luck with your coaching search, but Joey McGuire isn’t going anywhere,” Campbell posted on X.
Before TTU defeated BYU 29-7 on Nov. 8, McGuire said he planned to stay in Lubbock for the remainder of his coaching career.
“Man, I’m a Texan. I ain’t never lived anywhere else,” McGuire said. “I was born in Texas, and I’ll die in Texas, and hopefully not anytime soon. But I’m gonna die a Red Raider. I’ll be here for the rest of my life.”
McGuire is 33-17 overall and 23-12 in Big 12 play in his fourth year at Texas Tech, his first stint as a head coach.
McGuire has not come up on many hot boards in this coaching cycle. However, his name could become more popular as the coaching carousel expands and the Red Raiders make a run to the CFP.
With that being said, LSU doesn’t appear to be a plausible destination for McGuire in 2026.
