Thomas Massie Campaign Says It’s Received Over $200K Amid Trump’s Attacks
Republican Congressman Thomas Massie of Kentucky’s campaign account says it has received over $2000,000 this week amid President Donald Trump’s consistent attacks regarding a government funding bill.
Newsweek reached out to Massie’s campaign via email for comment Wednesday evening.
Why It Matters
The continuing resolution (CR) presented a contentious argument among lawmakers in the House this week, as a bill needed to be passed to continue to fund the government.
The bill’s passage in the House on Tuesday also sparked backlash within the Republican Party as Massie refused to vote in favor of the bill, rebuking Trump’s guidance. Massie was the only Republican to vote against the CR.
What To Know
Taking to X, formerly Twitter on Wednesday, Massie’s campaign posted about the financial “outpouring” since voting against the CR.
“I’ve received an amazing outpouring of support since I was attacked for voting No on the Biden-$-level CR. In fact, we just hit $205,000 from 2500 grassroots donors! Can you help me send a ‘huge’ message by reaching $250,000 before the 48 hour mark?” Massie’s campaign account said, while also posting the donation link.
In a previous post on X on Wednesday, Massie’s campaign touted receiving $175,000 in donations in 36 hours. “For the first time, my cash on hand is over $1,000,000. It’s a great start, but I’m going to need more if POTUS makes good on his threat to retaliate for my vote,” Massie’s post added, while saying, “Please help me set a 48hr record” and linking to the donation page.

What People Are Saying
Trump said on Truth Social in the early hours on Wednesday morning: “So Massie can vote for Debt Ceiling AND Budget to be put into the Trump Administration, making them both the Republicans problem and responsibility, but can’t give us a simple Continuing Resolution vote allowing us the time necessary to come up with a ‘GREAT, BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL??? Republicans only ‘NO Vote. GRANDSTANDER!”
Massie’s congressional account on X on Wednesday, responding to Trump celebrating the CR passing in the House: “Who wants to tell them? By continuing 2024 appropriations into 2025 with a ‘Continuing Resolution,’ Congress just locked in a large portion of the Biden agenda for the first nine months of Trump’s presidency.”
Conservative political commentator Candace Owens on X defending Massie on Tuesday: “Totally agreed. Conservatives should support Massie because he is one of the few who practices ‘America First’ beyond just preaching it.”
What Happens Next
The GOP primary election for Massie’s seat has not been announced yet.
