Tiger Woods’ Iconic Masters Chip Relived by PGA Tour Pros on Anniversary

Sunday at the Masters is finally here. It is the day that all golf fans look forward to more than any other. This year is no exception, as Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau will go head-to-head in the final pairing for the first time at Augusta National Golf Club.

As the world’s best tee off, the Masters’ official account on X, formerly Twitter, posted a video of one of the most famous moments in Masters history on its 20th anniversary.

Tiger Woods’ iconic chip on 16 during the 2005 Masters set the golf world on fire. It left fans and PGA Tour professionals in awe, as the video detailed.

“I remember that shot really vividly because my dad happened to be at that Masters,” Wyndham Clark said.

“He happened to be on hole 16.”

Woods left Chris DiMarco by one shot on the final day as they played 16. DiMarco’s tee found the green, leaving him with a birdie putt to tie.

Meanwhile, Woods’ tee shot missed the green and stopped up against the lip, setting up arguably the greatest chip of all time.

“Looking at the chip, I was just trying to get the ball inside Chris’ ball,” Woods said in the video.

“When I hit it, it kind spun and the way it checked, and the way it released and started coming down the hill… I knew it was really good. I knew it was a great shot.”

For a split second, the ball stopped on the edge of the cup, leaving patrons dumbstruck. The Nike symbol shining gloriously into the camera lens.

Then the unthinkable happened, as the ball dropped into the hole.

“It is such an outrageous shot, outrageous,” said Adam Scott, a former Masters champion.

“At that moment, with that kind of pressure, and that kind of control to get up the hill and stop it on the spot.”

PGA Tour pro Sam Burns chimed in with the sentiment every golf fan can relate to.

“It just seemed like the ball sat on the edge for 10 seconds. Every time I see the video it seems longer,” Burns said.

While the pros relive the shot, a montage of video from the iconic chips plays out from several angles. Woods’ reaction was something to behold, as the fans went wild, still in disbelief.

“The Tiger effect is real,” said Xander Schauffele.

“All of it was very magical,” Tony Finau added.

It truly was a moment every golf fan will remember forever. Will we be treated to the same this Masters Sunday?

McIlroy enters the final round looking to complete the career Grand Slam. Meanwhile, DeChambeau is looking for his first Masters title and third major of his career.
