Titans HC Brian Callahan on Will Revis Remaining Starting QB, ‘There is No Controversy’

Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan said Tuesday that he is not considering a quarterback change after quarterback Will Levis exited Monday’s win over the Miami Dolphins early because of a shoulder injury.

Callahan reaffirmed that when Levis is healthy, he is the team’s starter. “There’s no controversy, no second guessing,” Callahan said, via Cameron Wolfe. Callahan added that he believes Levis’s injury is not season-ending.

Levis injured his shoulder in the first quarter Monday after diving for a first down. He completed three of four passes for 25 yards, with his lone incompletion coming on an interception before he left the game.

Mason Rudolph replaced Levis when he came out of the game and went nine of 17 for 85 yards. While Rudolph played the majority of the game as the Titans won their first game of the season in a 31-12 commanding victory, he did not necessarily transform the offense to another level to justify leaving him as the starter.

The Titans scored five field goals during the win and primarily relied on their rushing game offensively. Tennessee had just 102 total passing yards, but 142 total rushing yards. Their win also came against a Dolphins team that is currently missing their starting quarterback.

Still, it wasn’t shocking to see Callahan asked about whether Levis would remain the starter. Levis leads the NFL in interceptions thrown this season. His turnovers have been among the most chaotic in the NFL this season. In Week 1 against the Chicago Bears, Levis tried avoiding a sack but ended up throwing an interception to Bears’ Tyrique Stevenson, who returned the pick to the house to give the Bears the win.

These kinds of turnovers have come every week this season from Levis, and cost the Titans in games. Callahan was openly critical of Levis for making these mistakes after their first two games.

“It was like, ‘Look, they haven’t done anything on offense. Our defense is playing lights-out. We don’t have to be exceptional on offense right now. We’re still trying to go score, but limiting the errors is what’s going to win us this game,'” Callahan said after their loss to the Bears.

During the Titans loss to the New York Jets the following week, Callahan was seen yelling “what the f*** are you doing” after Levis committed a fumble.

Callahan is currently opting to stick with Levis, who the franchise drafted in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft in hopes of him turning their team around. For now, the only question surrounding Levis’s upcoming status is whether he is healthy or not.
