Today’s ‘Wordle’ #1,060 Clues and Answer for Tuesday, May 14 Puzzle

If you’re a regular Wordle player you’ll know those daily puzzles are no easy feat, so Newsweek is here to help.

The incredibly popular game was invented by New York-based software engineer Josh Wardle, who perfected Wordle during the COVID-19 lockdowns. He then decided to release it to the public in October 2021.

Following its public debut, Wordle exploded from 90 users on November 1, 2021, to 300,000 on January 2, 2022, according to figures by Statista. The New York Times purchased the game for an undisclosed seven-figure fee soon after.

The puzzle’s popularity shows no signs of slowing down, and whether you’re looking for a challenge or just in need of a fun distraction, Wordle offers a delightful escape into the world of letters and language. The word-based game has also proven that sometimes simplicity is the key to success.

The game requires players to identify a mystery five-letter word in six goes or fewer. There is a color-coded system that helps players along the way. If the right letter is in the right place, the tile will go green. If it is in the wrong place, it turns yellow. If it is not in the word at all, the tile goes gray.

One of the aspects of Wordle that is so appealing to players is the fact that you don’t have to race against the clock when playing it. As the game resets every day at midnight in users’ local time zones, people have the whole day to figure out the answer. If the puzzle is proving tricky, sometimes it is best to step away for a while before coming back to try and solve it.

If you need a hand solving today’s Wordle brainteaser, Newsweek has put together a few hints to help you out. But be warned, the answer appears further down in the article, so scroll with caution if you want to work it out yourself.

The answer to today’s Wordle is “Amass.”

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, the verb is defined as “to collect for oneself: ACCUMULATE” and “to collect into a mass: GATHER.”

Congratulations if you got the answer right but if you didn’t, there is no need to worry. Wardle previously told Newsweek that he usually needs four or five attempts before getting it right.

“[My partner] and I play it on the couch together each morning,” he said. “She will consistently get it in three goes, which is way, way better than I can ever hope to achieve. I normally need at least four or five attempts.”
