Today’s ‘Wordle’ #1,218 Answer: Clues and Hints for Saturday, October 19
Wordle turns three this month and whether you’ve been playing the whole time or are new to the game, learning the best tactics to win is the key to success.
Linguistics expert and Babbel Live teacher Noël Wolf previously explained to Newsweek that a really good method to become a successful Wordle player is to “familiarize yourself with more words.”
“Expanding your vocabulary for Wordle is particularly useful because the game often includes words that aren’t used in everyday conversation,” she said.
“Aside from reading widely to expose yourself to less common words, playing other fun word games like Scrabble, word searches and crossword puzzles can be a great way to widen your vocabulary.”
You can also read more to learn lots of different words, but Wolf suggested really thinking about your guesses as you progress through the daily game.
“Be strategic with your second guess. As hard as it might seem—especially if you have a few correct letters in your first word—using a completely separate set of letters, where possible, will help eliminate more possibilities in fewer guesses,” she said.
“For example, If your first Wordle guess is ‘crane’ and you discover that C and R are correct, instead of guessing a word like ‘cross,’ try a different word like ‘plumb.’ This will use new letters and explore different vowel placements, increasing your chances of narrowing down the possibilities.”
How To Play ‘Wordle’
The premise of Wordle is simple enough. Players are required to solve a mystery five-letter word, in six guesses or fewer. They do so by typing a word and, through a process of elimination, working out the answer.
They are helped along by a color-coded tile system. A green tile means you’ve got the correct letter and it’s in the correct position, while a yellow tile means the letter appears in the word but is in the wrong spot. Finally, a gray tile indicates that the letter does not appear in the word at all.
