Today’s ‘Wordle’ #1,269 Answers, Hints and Clues for Monday, December 9

The ever-popular Wordle quiz is back with another brain teasing installment and Newsweek is here with tips and the answer if you’re struggling to solve it.

Created by British software engineer Josh Wardle, Wordle quickly became a sensation during the coronavirus pandemic, offering a much-needed distraction from the challenges of lockdown. Its popularity soared since then, and by early 2022, The New York Times acquired it for an undisclosed seven-figure sum.

If you’re familiar with the game, you already know how it works. But for newcomers, the concept is simple: guess the daily five-letter word in as few tries as possible. A new word is revealed every 24 hours, released at midnight in your local time zone, and players have just six attempts to guess the correct answer.

The game helps you in your endeavor: when you correctly place a letter, its tile turns green. If the letter is part of the word but in the wrong spot, the tile turns yellow. Letters not in the word at all are marked with gray tiles.

Wardle previously gave some insight to Newsweek about the reasoning behind the game’s rules. “There is a reason that every word is five letters long and that you are allowed six attempts to guess it. That might seem arbitrary, but with the prototype version, I tested different word lengths and experimented with the number of tries that players were allowed,” Wardle said.

“Through that process of refinement, I figured out that five letters and six tries was the ideal sweet spot. It’s just limited enough to feel challenging and to make you think, but most of the time, people still manage to solve it. So, you feel a real sense of real accomplishment.”

On releasing the puzzle game during the pandemic, Wardle said: “I liked the idea that everyone around the world was trying to solve the exact same word at the exact same time.

“It created a shared communal experience. [If] there were multiple puzzles to solve and everyone was at a different stage, then there wouldn’t be that kind of conversation, which I think is the most fulfilling part of Wordle.”

The answer to Monday’s Wordle will be revealed at the end of this article, so scroll with caution if you want to work it out for yourself.
