Tom Brady Releases Statement After Becoming Part-Owner of Raiders
Seven-time Super Bowl champion and future Hall of Famer Tom Brady has dipped his toes into the NFL executive world. Brady has become a part-owner of the Las Vegas Raiders.
In a lengthy statement that he shared on special media, he addressed what an honor it is to join the Raiders organization and what they stand for.
“I’m incredibly humbled and excited to have been approved as an owner of the Las Vegas Raiders,” he wrote. “Throughout my NFL career, I’ve learned that at its core, football is a game of teamwork, resilience, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. The Raiders franchise and the city of Las Vegas embody those some values, and I’m honored to become part of that story.
“Football has been part of my entire life growing up in the Bay Area and in so many ways, my football life and journey has come full circle. I love the sport, I love my teammates, coaches, and the fans in every organization I’ve been a part of. Sports brings us together in a way nothing else can. I grew up on the field, and it’s a blessing to know I’ll be involved in the greatest league in the world for the rest of my life.”
“I’d like to thank Mark Davis for welcoming me into his family and the tireless work he’s done to help build on the organization that so many fans know and love today,” Brady wrote. “Also thank you to Commissioner (Rogers) Goodell for his support as well as all the NFL owners that supported my dream — I’m forever grateful. I’d also like to thank my partner Tom Wagner, Don Yee, Jim Gray, Alex Spiro, and Larry Delson as they have been instrumental in helping me achieve this incredible milestone.
“I’m eager to contribute to the organization in any way I can, honoring the Raiders’ rich tradition while finding every possible opportunity to improve our offering to fans,” Brady wrote. “And most importantly, win football games.”
Brady purchased a minority stake in the Raiders, a deal unanimously approved by NFL team owners on Tuesday at the league’s annual fall meeting.
Raiders owner Al Davis spoke on Brady joining his organization.
“It’s an exciting day for the Raider organization,” Davis said. “Although Tom can’t play, I think he can help us select a quarterback in the future and potentially train him as well.”
The 47-year-old played in the NFL for 23 seasons with the Patriots and Buccaneers and had an NFL career like no other. During his tenure, he holds records for career quarterback wins (251), career passing completions (7,753), career passing touchdowns (649), and career passing yards (89,214).
That’s just four of the many records and accolades he holds to his name.
This feat didn’t come without any hurdles, as his purchase of the Raiders was complicated by his new broadcasting job with Fox.
“There were a lot of things from a structural and due diligence standpoint that had to happen, which is why it took so long for it to be approved and we finally got all that put to bed,” Chiefs owner Clark Hunt said.
Brady agreed to become the new lead broadcaster for Fox in May 2023, but it took about 17 months to give their approval over concerns due to the discount he could receive from Davis.
Nonetheless, Brady got the job done, which he almost seemingly does, and now he will look to lead the Raiders back to glory.
