Trump Nominates Kimberly Guilfoyle as Ambassador to Greece
President-elect Donald Trump said Tuesday that he is nominating Kimberly Guilfoyle as the next United States ambassador to Greece.
“For many years, Kimberly has been a close friend and ally,” Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social. “Her extensive experience and leadership in law, media, and politics along with her sharp intellect make her supremely qualified to represent the United States, and safeguard its interests abroad.”
Trump added that Guilfoyle “is perfectly suited to foster strong bilateral relations with Greece, advancing our interests on issues ranging from defense cooperation to trade and economic innovation. “
Guilfoyle, who has no diplomatic experience, has been in a relationship with Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., for several years and was a fixture on the campaign trail. She also spoke at the Republican National Convention over the summer and served as the national chair of the Trump Victory Finance Committee.
Guilfoyle began dating Trump Jr. in 2018 and got engaged in 2020. She was previously married to California Governor Gavin Newsom.
She accepted Trump’s nomination Tuesday evening, writing, “I look forward to earning the support of the U.S. Senate,” which will be responsible for confirming her to the role.
“As ambassador, I look forward to delivering on the Trump agenda, supporting our Greek allies, and ushering in a new era of peace and prosperity,” she added.
Newsweek reached out to the Trump transition team for comment Tuesday.
Guilfoyle was a prominent right-wing voice on Fox News before leaving the network in 2018. Fox released a short statement at the time, saying it “has parted ways with Kimberly Guilfoyle.”
Three years later, The New Yorker published a lengthy report detailing allegations of sexual harassment that Guilfoyle’s former assistant made against her. A lawyer representing Guilfoyle told the outlet that “any suggestion” she had “engaged in misconduct at Fox is patently false.” Guilfoyle’s lawyer reiterated this statement when Newsweek reached out to him for comment.
The former co-host of The Five is the latest Trump ally to be tapped for a high-profile role in his administration. Trump also nominated Charles Kushner, his daughter Ivanka’s father-in-law, to serve as the U.S. ambassador to France.
Kushner was convicted of tax crimes, witness tampering, and making illegal campaign contributions in 2005, but Trump pardoned him in December 2020, shortly before leaving office.
Earlier this month, Trump said he would select Massad Boulos, his daughter Tiffany’s father-in-law, as his adviser on Arab and Middle Eastern affairs.
