Trump Reveals New Position He’ll Create for Elon Musk if He Wins Presidency

Donald Trump has said that he will create a new government position for Elon Musk if he wins the presidency and is sent to the White House again.

Speaking to Maria Bartiromo on her Fox News Sunday Morning Futures show yesterday, Trump said that he is planning on making Elon Musk “secretary of cost cutting.”

Musk has been vocal in his support for Trump during the election campaign, and recently appeared alongside him at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where Musk gave opening remarks about the importance of registering to vote and how he admired Trump’s “courage under fire.”

The topic of Musk’s potential role in a new Trump Administration arose on Bartiromo’s show when she said: “There’s a lot of fat in government that you would want to slim down.”

To which Trump responded: “Incredible fat.”

Bartiromo then asked Trump which agencies he wants to shut down, which he answered by saying: “Let me have you ask another person that, because I’m going to have Elon Musk, he is dying to do this, you know, he’s a great business guy, actually.”

Trump continued. “You think of him for science and rockets and every time he’s telling me about a new screw that was developed. He’s developed a new screw. Screws are difficult and it’s made out of titanium and it’s so exciting. But you know what, he’s a great business guy and he’s a great cost cutter. You’ve seen that. And he said ‘I could cut costs without affecting anybody.'”

Bartiromo then asked: “So he will be in the cabinet?”

Trump replied: “Not in the cabinet, he doesn’t want to be in the cabinet, he just wants to be in charge of cost-cutting. We’ll have a new position. Secretary of Cost Cutting. OK? Elon wants to do that.”

The Trump campaign has been contacted via email for further comment.

Trump mentioned Musk more than once during his interview with Bartiromo, saying the entrepreneur has “made me a promise he’ll get to Mars before the end of my administration, which will be long before, hopefully, China or Russia.”

While at Trump’s recent Butler PA rally, Elon Musk wore a shirt that read “Occupy Mars,” in reference to his company SpaceX’s mission to reach Mars within the decade.

Musk most recently unveiled new Tesla vehicles at his event “We, Robot” on Thursday. However, the designs divided opinion, and Tesla’s stock price fell by 7.8 percent on Friday October 11.

Tesla Investor Relations have been contacted via online form for comment.
