Two Co-Workers Start Dating in Secret, Unprepared for Who Reveals the Truth

A couple trying hard to keep their relationship a secret from their colleagues didn’t think about how their dog could ruin the surprise.

Emily and Nathan work at the same company, but since they started dating, they’ve decided not to tell their coworkers, at least for the time being.

There is often a big divide in how work relationships are viewed. Some urge people to steer clear because it can be viewed as unprofessional and lead to conflicts of interest. But on the flip side, others welcome it as a natural way to meet your potential partner.

Newsweek previously reported that work crushes and relationships can add excitement to one’s work life, giving them something to look forward to, but it’s important to remember that work remains the top priority.

However, during a Zoom video meeting they both needed to attend, their colleagues realized something was up. The two stayed in separate rooms while on the call, cautious not to draw attention to themselves. But their Australian shepherd and corgi mix dog had other plans.

In the April 3 TikTok video posted to Emily’s account, @emilyfitzsimmons04, the dog sat with her while she listened in to the call. The dog showed his face like he was part of the meeting. But when Emily wasn’t giving him her undivided attention, he went to the other room with Nathan.

Once again, the dog propped himself in sight of the camera. His dark snout and big eyes made it easy to spot that he was the same dog in both of their screens. Plus, the timing between Emily and Nathan’s screens appeared oddly suspicious. Without realizing it, Emily and Nathan accidentally spilled the secret that they were dating to their coworkers.

“I didn’t even realise we were making this mistake until the very end when people started laughing and I was like, ‘What’s the joke?'” Emily told Newsweek via TikTok.

They learned their lesson, and, as the caption reads, they won’t be letting their dog run up and down the stairs while they’re in the same meeting.

Viewer Reactions

The unfortunate yet hilarious moment reached over 924,600 views, 51,000 likes, and 45 comments on TikTok as of Monday.

“Imagine the dog being like, ‘I just wanted pets, don’t know why they’re upset,'” joked a viewer.

Another added: “I’d be like, ‘F-funny that…we have very similar dogs.'”

A third person said: “I’d have an absolute field trip figuring this out and being so proud of myself.”
