UConn Makes Azzi Fudd, Sarah Strong Announcement Before March Madness
The UConn women’s basketball program displayed its dominance for another season, going undefeated in the regular season and then obliterating opponents in the Big East Tournament.
Along the way, the Lady Huskies have been led by standout players Azzi Fudd and Sarah Strong, both of whom will eventually be among the top picks in the WNBA Draft.
Before any of that occurs, the UConn teammates will attempt to remain undefeated and run through the tournament for March Madness. Fudd and Strong will be instrumental in that occurring.
Ahead of the team’s first game in the NCAA Tournament, UConn announced major news regarding the two teammates after their stellar basketball season.

On Wednesday, news hit that Fudd and Strong both were named first-team All-Americans by the Associated Press. They are the first teammates to make the first team since it occurred in 2020.
Strong led the Huskies with 18.5 points, 7.6 rebounds, 3.4 steals, and 1.6 blocks per game. Fudd was the second-leading scorer with 17.7 points per game, also averaging three assists, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.5 steals per contest.
They follow in the footsteps of former teammate Paige Bueckers, who received the honor last year and then went No. 1 overall in the WNBA Draft. She just recently played for the United States alongside Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, and other stars, helping them go 5-0 in the FIBA World Cup Qualifying Tournament.
Also on this year’s first team are Texas forward Madison Booker, Vanderbilt guard Mikayla Blakes, and UCLA center Lauren Betts.
“AP got it right! Azzi Fudd & Sarah Strong 1st Team All Americans!!!” one fan commented.
Another said, “Yasss, put my girl Azzi in that huskies of honor, thank ya!”
Others wrote on X, “So so proud of Azzi she deserves it all” and “So proud of these two!!”
UConn (34-0) is the overall No. 1 seed in the Women’s NCAA Tournament bracket and will begin March Madness by hosting No. 16 seed UTSA. As of this writing, the Huskies are overwhelming odds-on-favorites to win over 54.5 points.
In terms of big favorites to win the tournament, UConn continues to hold that distinction, with -265 odds currently at DraftKings. The next-closest teams are Betts’ UCLA (+550) and Booker’s Texas Longhorns (+700).
