US State Department Issues Update on New Passport Applications
State Department officials have announced a new round of passport acceptance events nationwide, expanding in-person options for applicants throughout April.
Why It Matters
Passport demand has remained high as more Americans plan international travel.
These pop-up events are designed to make the application process easier by expanding access beyond standard weekday office hours.
What To Know
The U.S. State Department says it is hosting dozens of passport acceptance events across the country in April, giving applicants additional chances to apply in person at libraries, post offices, universities and community centers.
According to the department, the events are aimed at people who may have difficulty visiting a passport acceptance facility during regular business hours. Some will take place in the evenings, while many are scheduled on Saturdays.

Locations span more than a dozen states and U.S. territories, including New York, California, Texas, Florida, Illinois and Puerto Rico.
Several events do not require appointments, though others ask applicants to book ahead or call a listed phone number to reserve a slot. Each event will offer in‑person acceptance services, allowing applicants to submit passport applications, supporting documents and photos on site. Availability and appointment rules vary by location, with capacity often limited.
State Department officials note that these pop-up events are meant to supplement, not replace, existing passport acceptance facilities, which continue to operate nationwide. Applicants are encouraged to review event details carefully before attending, particularly whether an appointment is required and how long each event is scheduled to run.
