Vet Reveals Dog’s True Breed, But Owner Still Tells People He’s a Spaniel
Even after a veterinarian shared a canine’s true breed, a pet parent gave up on correcting people inquiring about the type of dog he owns.
TikTok user @roadsandriverss recently jumped on the “you’re so funny” trend circulating on social media. In the clips, people add the phrase “you’re so funny” to their video, then proceed to explain what caused them to be humorous, often referring to a traumatic childhood experience. But in this man’s February 9 video, his reasoning for being funny is due to his experience as a dog owner.
He told Newsweek via TikTok that several people would ask about his dog, River, especially when he was a puppy, curious about his breed. They would repeat the same line about how River looked like a spaniel dog breed rather than a cockapoo. The owner knew better, getting confirmation from the vet that River was indeed a cockapoo—a cross between a cocker spaniel and a poodle.
People still believed River was a spaniel and “… getting the same response back from them every time got a bit annoying,” the owner explained. That’s why he gave up correcting people about River’s true breed after about a month or two. Letting the comments roll off his back led to the owner’s humor.
In response to the “you’re so funny” comment, the text on the clip reads: “Thanks, the vet says I’m a cockapoo but I actually look like a spaniel so dad has given up and just tells everyone I’m a spaniel.”

Viewer Reactions
The TikTok video amassed over 330,000 views, 31,600 likes and 370 comments as of Monday. Those in the comment section agreed that River’s breed didn’t matter; he was still a “gorgeous” dog.
“That cocko is deffo spanielling,” wrote one viewer.
A second person commented: “I don’t think they’re a spaniel, I think they’re a cutiepatootie.”
A third user said: “He actually just looks like a good boy.”
Others shared similar experiences, saying they didn’t want to explain their dog’s family tree.
“Same as mine. I currently go through the ‘it depends what they’ve inherited’ speech but I’m tempted to just start saying she’s a cocker,” to which River’s owner responded: “It saves a lot of time.”
