Video Shows Private Plane Ablaze After North Carolina Crash
A business jet crashed while attempting to land Thursday at a regional airport in Statesville, North Carolina, and burst into flames, authorities said.
Local news outlets, including WBTV in Charlotte, are reporting multiple fatalities in the crash. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said a Cessna C550 went down at Statesville Regional Airport around 10:20 a.m. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the FAA are investigating the crash.
Video from WSOC-TV showed emergency crews rushing onto the runway as flames burned near scattered wreckage from the aircraft.
Statesville Regional Airport provides corporate aviation facilities for Fortune 500 companies and several NASCAR teams, according to the airport’s website. Statesville is about 45 miles north of Charlotte.
Video and images from the scene showed the plane engulfed in flames after the crash at the city-owned airport.
