Minnesota Vikings quarterback Carson Wentz was terse at the podium following a 28-22 loss to his former Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
Wentz swung the game in his former team’s favor with a pair of first-half interceptions — an interception on the Eagles’ 9-yard line and a 42-yard pick-six by Jalyx Hunt that put the Vikings behind by 11 points late in the second quarter.

While those interceptions proved backbreaking, the Vikings had opportunities to take the lead with four trips in the red zone in the second half. They converted just one of those trips for a touchdown and were 1-for-6 in the red zone on the day. Wentz froze up in the red zone several times, including on both of his sacks that came inside the 20-yard line.
After the game, Wentz addressed his interceptions with a blatantly obvious message that surely cropped up in the minds of Vikings fans throughout the game.
“I gotta not throw the ball ot the other team,” Wentz said, according to Sports Illustrated’s Will Ragatz. “That would be great.”
Wentz’s comment drew the ire of many fans on social media. Many fans poked fun at the comment as catharsis.
“Oh really? Who would have thought,” one fan replied.
“Dude is a loser. Save the sarcastic comments for after a W,” a second fan wrote.
“Can’t throw the ball to the other team from the bench,” a third fan said, echoing many sentiments that Wentz should have been benched.
Completing 26 of 42 pass attempts for 313 yards and no touchdowns, Wentz finished the game with a 64.9 passer rating as he proved inaccurate throughout the game. Wentz is currently 2-2 as the Vikings’ starting quarterback since taking over for J.J. McCarthy, who is dealing with a high ankle sprain he suffered in Week 2.

The Vikings (3-3) have a short turnaround before they play the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday night. Head coach Kevin O’Connell was noncommittal after the Eagles’ game about which quarterback will start against the Chargers.
“We’ve got to see how he [Wentz] comes out health-wise,” O’Connell said after the game. “We will see how [McCarthy] feels as well. On a short week, we are gonna put together the best plan we can, and that also includes the players available to us.”
