Watch Golden Retriever Slowly Realizing Owner Is Home: ‘Heart Explodes’
A video of a touching moment when a golden retriever realizes his owner, who he hadn’t heard come in, is home has captivated the hearts of viewers on TikTok.
The video, shared by @alittleofevviething, has amassed 1.2 million views since it was posted on October 24.
A note overlaid on the video reads: “Watch our golden retriever realize my husband is home after he didn’t hear him come in.”
The clip begins with a sweet scene of the golden retriever comfortably resting on a bed, his head hidden behind a backpack, completely unaware of his human dad’s presence. His owner is shown smiling softly as he observes his canine companion. He tenderly begins to stroke the dog’s head, which prompts an adorable reaction.
Upon feeling the gentle touch, the golden retriever stirs, with his tail wagging energetically in excitement. The dog looks up and appears to recognize his owner, turning around briefly towards the camera before leaping off the bed and into his owner’s welcoming arms.
Newsweek has contacted the original poster for comment via TikTok. This video has not been independently verified.
The golden retriever’s elation over his owner’s arrival is unsurprising because the unique relationship between adult dogs and their owners “bears a remarkable resemblance to an infant attachment bond,” noted a May 2013 study published in PLOS One.
“Dogs are dependent on human care and their behavior seems specifically geared to engage their owners’ care-giving system,” the study said.
‘This Is So Precious’
A caption shared with the viral TikTok post says: “His urgent need to retrieve something for him but not able to find something was sooo cute,” highlighting the pup’s immediate instinct to bring his owner something as a token of joy.
The TikTok community was visibly moved by the clip. Clyde Smith shared his delight, simply saying: “My heart explodes with dogs!”
Kiehl’s Since 1851 said: “This is so precious,” while K & M Gray wrote: “Ugh my heart,” perfectly summarizing how many felt after viewing the video.
Reflecting on the golden retriever’s close bond with his owner, K Snow remarked: “Golden retrievers love their dads so much.”
Others noted the dog’s innate desire to please. MyLifeSoFar_143 highlighted the dog’s “instant need to grab something.”
MB added: “There is literally nothing better than coming home to an excited golden retriever who brings you the most random things.”
Taylor stated: “Idk [I don’t know] if there’s a better feeling than seeing my pup get excited to see me.”
