William Levy Breaks Silence After Release From Jail

Cuban-American actor William Levy has spoken out following his arrest in South Florida on charges of disorderly intoxication and trespassing on Monday.

Newsweek reached out to Levy for comment via email on Wednesday morning.

The arrest report alleges that the 44 year old caused a disturbance at a restaurant in Weston and was “highly intoxicated.” According to court documents, the incident unfolded and Levy allegedly got into a physical altercation with an employee.

It’s claimed he was asked by the manager not to return to the premises. When law enforcement arrived, it’s reported he ignored repeated orders from a deputy to leave. Following his arrest, he spent the night in a detention center and was released Tuesday evening after posting a $500 bond—$250 for each charge. Levy later offering his first public comments on the incident.

Upon his release from Broward County Jail, Levy was met by a crowd of reporters and jokingly ducked their cameras before briefly addressing the situation. In a video posted on journalist Maria Fernanda Lopez’s Instagram account, he denied rumors that he had assaulted a restaurant employee, saying: “No, no—come on, there are cameras.”

When asked what led to his arrest, he claimed he had been trying to break up an argument.

“All of a sudden, he started arguing with another guy to deescalate the situation, and I’m the one who ended up in handcuffs,” he told reporters.

“I tried to stay calm the whole time. In the end, I was the one who had to leave,” he said. When asked about the trespassing charge, he added: “Well, they had to take me in for something.”

After his release from Broward County Jail, William Levy was picked up by his brother-in-law.

Originally from Cuba, Levy moved to Miami in his teens and went on to build a successful career in entertainment, appearing in Tyler Perry’s The Single Moms Club and competing on Dancing With the Stars in 2012, where he placed third with partner Cheryl Burke. He also starred in 2016’s Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.

Levy was in a long-term relationship with Mexican-American actress Elizabeth Gutiérrez, with whom he shares two children. The couple had an on-and-off relationship that spanned nearly 20 years. In May 2024, Gutiérrez confirmed their separation in a interview.
