Winter Storm Map Shows Which States Will Be Impacted This Weekend
Another winter storm has been forecast to impact the U.S. this weekend, with the potential to bring inclement weather from Texas and the Midwest to the Northeast.
Why It Matters
The U.S. has already faced multiple winter storms this season.
Freezing temperatures can pose health risks, particularly for vulnerable groups like infants and older adults. Additionally, winter storms may cause power outages and snow can obstruct travel, leading to dangerous driving conditions.
What To Know
A forecast map from AccuWeather showed that the storm presented the potential to bring snow and ice from the Midwest, Great Lakes area and the Northeast.

AccuWeather
These included Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Vermont, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, New Hampshire and Maine.
AccuWeather meteorologists predict that the weekend storm will likely bring mostly rain to the Ohio Valley due to reduced Arctic air, but parts of the mid-Atlantic and southern New England may see snow and ice initially. As colder air moves in later, rain could transition to accumulating snow from Kansas City to St. Louis, Cincinnati and Pittsburgh.
Most snow is expected to occur outside of major metro areas, AccuWeather meteorologist Tyler Roys told Newsweek.
Wisconsin, Central Michigan, upstate New York and northern parts of New England were likely to see the most snow, Roys said.
He added that in parts of northern Maine, up to two feet could be possible, though not guaranteed.
A zone of moisture was also forecast for parts of the south, including the Florida Panhandle, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia.
Roys said that an area from Houston, Texas to Nashville and southeastern Kentucky could see damaging winds, flash flooding and even tornadoes.
What People Are Saying
AccuWeather meteorologist Tyler Roys told Newsweek: “ This weekend winter storm out in the east is really a cross-country storm. It’s moving into the west coast today, and then it’s going to move out into the Plains by Friday afternoon-Friday evening. When it does so, snow is going to break out across the Midwest United States, so we’re looking somewhere between 1 p.m. and 7 p. m. on Friday. Then, as the storm tracks into the Ohio Valley, that snow is going to expand eastward.
What Happens Next
Organizations such as the National Weather Service (NWS) issue regular forecast updates.
AccuWeather meteorologists say yet another winter storm could hit next week.
