Woman Enjoys ‘Lovely’ Wedding—Until She Overhears One Comment
A guest at what she described as a “lovely” family wedding said her experience took a sour turn after overhearing another attendee complain that the couple’s baby was dressed in white.
The original poster (OP), user Chocolategirl1234, recounted the incident on Reddit, explaining that the infant wore white trousers, a white shirt and a blue jacket to match his dad’s suit during the ceremony.
“The jacket was probably not that comfortable for a baby, and they took it off after the ceremony and photos, so he was then in white,” the OP wrote.
But it seems one guest wasn’t happy about that.

“There was a guest there (plus one) b****ing about him being in white and how it was inappropriate,” the OP wrote. “Didn’t matter that the bride had picked the outfit. That was her not really getting it, apparently.
“I didn’t hear about this until later, or I would have said something to her. I’m so annoyed. The couple are so nice, and I hope they don’t find out about it because I worry they’d be hurt.
“Clearly a baby isn’t going to be mistaken for the bride, and did he take attention from her? Well, maybe because he’s so smiley and cute, not because he wore the white clothes.”
White Weddings
Wedding etiquette about white clothing has long been debated. According to Amanda Mitchell, writing for Zola, traditional guidance discourages guests from wearing the color because it can distract from the bride.
“It’s obvious why one shouldn’t wear white as a wedding guest,” Mitchell wrote. “Unless it’s a part of the dress code, it’s considered rude and an attempt to upstage the bride.”
Children’s clothing, however, can add another layer of complication, especially when comfort and formality collide.
Reddit Reacts
Reddit users flocked to the comments to weigh in, with one writing, “This is so funny. Like, yes, the baby deliberately picked out a white suit so he can upstage the bride.”
Another piled on with sarcasm: “Clearly, the baby is a complete narcissist who wanted all the attention on himself!!! probably acted all cute and cuddly as well just to fool people!!
“I mean, of all the nerve…”
Dramatic Behavior
While the comments were lighthearted, experts say dramatic reactions to minor situations can still affect social gatherings.
According to the Kentucky Counseling Center, “Dramatic behavior centers on attention-seeking actions,” with the center adding that exaggerated reactions to small issues can drain the energy of those around them, especially in settings meant to celebrate milestones or bring people together.
For the guest who shared the story, she hopes the couple never hears about the criticism and instead remembers the day for what it was meant to be: a celebration surrounded by friends, family and their smiling baby.
Newsweek has reached out to Chocolategirl1234 for comment via Reddit. We could not verify the details of the case.
