Woman Films What Rescue Dog Does on First Night Home—Then Makes Realization

Every dog comes with their own quirky habits or unique characteristics that set them apart, and one rescue dog’s specific way of sitting quickly touched people’s hearts.

On the very first day TikTok user @leighhh40 brought home her rescue dog, she snuck a peek at him to see how he was adjusting. She found him sitting next to the table with his front paws crossed over each other. She didn’t think too much into it, guessing it was a “one off.”

But by the third day of being home, he sat in the same manner. His head up, absorbing his surroundings with his front paws crossed. As time continued, the owner noticed the dog continuing to sit in this specific way. It became his thing.

Part of the caption reads: “Our pup did come with some funny ways…. but this is the cutest.”

With over 13,100 views on TikTok, people fell head over paws for this rescue dog’s sitting habit, calling him “a distinguished gentleman” and “little fancy pants.”

“He’s adorable! Thank you for rescuing him,” wrote one viewer.

Another person commented: “He is extremely regal.”

Aside from his gentlemanly qualities, people were obsessing over his ears: “Their ears are magnificent!”

Why Do Dogs Cross Their Paws?

Dogs are intentional with their body language, as it’s a way to communicate with their owners. But what does it mean when they cross their paws? An article from Dogster dove into several possible meanings for the habit.

While it is a matter of preference, many dogs will continually cross their paws because they find it comfortable. It can be a relaxing position for them. This posture could be a dog’s way of asking for treats, especially if they’ve been rewarded for sitting this way before.

A reason for the crossed paws could be due to imitation. A canine might’ve noticed another dog doing it previously, leading them to learn the habit. Body structure and long legs might make it more comfortable for certain dogs to sit in this manner. It can help them feel balanced.

If you notice this habit accompanied by chewing or licking their paws, redness, and limping, check with your veterinarian, as they may be showing signs of illness or injury.
