Woman found dead in North Hollywood; Glendale firefighter detained

A Glendale firefighter was detained Wednesday after a woman was found dead in a North Hollywood home in what officials believed was a domestic violence homicide.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Andrew Jimenez, a longtime firefighter and paramedic for the city of Glendale, had been formally arrested or charged in the death. But city officials said the off-duty firefighter had been detained in connection with the case, according to statements from the city. The victim was not immediately identified.

Glendale officials said Jimenez had been placed on administrative leave. The city’s Fire Department is “fully cooperating” with the homicide investigation, which is being conducted by the Los Angeles Police Department, the statement said.

“Our condolences are with the victim’s family and loved ones,” Glendale Fire Chief Jeff Brooks wrote in a statement released late Wednesday. “We are prepared to support those impacted by this tragedy, and we are also ensuring our firefighters and staff have access to support resources as they process this loss.”

Jimenez had worked for the city’s Fire Department since 2008, officials said.

Few other details about the investigation were immediately available, but L.A. police officials said the woman was found dead around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, when officers responded to the 5600 block of Satsuma Avenue.
