Woman Having Bad Week Tells Dad—Then Hears Something at Her Door
The internet has been left in tears as a woman shared how her father surprised her when she was going through a tough time.
Maddie O’Rourke, who posts to TikTok under the username @maddieorourke1, shared a throwback video on November 11, recalling “the time my dad knew I was having a bad week.”
In the video, O’Rourke sits on the sofa, as someone records her father walking into the room—along with their family dog, Molly.
O’Rourke is completely shocked, gasping as she spots Molly walking in, and breaking down completely when she sees her dad.
“Hey baby girl,” he greets her, and as she rushes in for a hug, he adds playfully: “Gotcha!”
The father and daughter embrace, and he rubs her back comfortingly as she appears to burst into tears.
“He drove four hours to surprise me with our family dog,” she wrote, adding in the caption: “Clearly I really needed a hug from my dad and my sweet Molly girl.”
TikTok users were in pieces, awarding the video more than 150,000 likes, as one wrote: “She needed her dog, but really needed her dad.”
“I know he hyped the dog up the whole four-hour trip. That she was what you really needed,” one wrote, and another praised her father: “Let your father be the example of how a man should treat you!”
Others shared their own stories, as one wrote: “I was once having a really hard time and dad flew across the country the next day. I’ll cherish that forever, just like you cherish this wonderful moment with your father.”

Others admitted they were “crying,” one writing: “This is beautiful,” while some shared that they wished they had had parents as caring as O’Rourke’s father.
As one put it: “Oh to have a safe space in your parents, I wonder who I would be.”
And one revealing their father had passed away, said: “He would’ve done something like this too. Soak up those hugs.” Another agreed: “Hug him a bit tighter cause my daddy is in heaven.”
