‘Wordle’ #1,173 Answer, Clues and Hints for Wednesday, September 4 Game
Tracey Bennett seems to have the best job in the world—as puzzle editor at The New York Times, she gets to choose the Wordle word of the day.
Wordle is a word-based guessing game created by Brooklyn-based engineer Josh Wardle for his puzzle-loving girlfriend.
He made the game public in October 2021 and it was so successful that, in January 2022, The New York Times snapped it up for an undisclosed seven-figure sum.
Now, every day, millions of people attempt to guess the five-letter word of the day using green and yellow tiles to guide their answers.
Bennett previously revealed to Us Weekly that she works six weeks in advance and often chooses the answer with the help of a random word generator.
Due to working so far ahead, Bennett says she often forgets which words are scheduled, meaning she can play the game just like everyone else.
However, choosing Wordle words can be more stressful than most think—Bennett has revealed she occasionally gets backlash for her choices.
The most notable occasion was, she says, when she picked ‘FEAST’ on Thanksgiving.
“There was a contingent that really, really resented that choice. I was so new [to the job] and I felt like it was the end of the world. It did help me realize how significant this role really is to millions of people. It was eye-opening,” Bennett told Us Weekly.
Bennett also says she has to keep up on the news cycle to ensure that no Wordle words are offensive in light of current events.
In terms of tricks to ensure you get the best possible score, Bennett says choosing a word like TRACE might be helpful as it has a mix of commonly used letters and vowels.
With that in mind, let’s see how you fare on today’s Wordle. But don’t worry, if you get stumped then scroll down for hints and clues.
