World Series News: Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani Injured in Game 2
Shohei Ohtani appeared to suffer an injury sliding into second base in the seventh inning of Game 2 of the World Series, a potentially damaging blow to the Los Angeles Dodgers as they look to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.
Ohtani was caught stealing second base to end the inning but was slow to get up. He appeared to be in obvious pain, pointing to his left wrist or forearm area.
Ohtani was escorted off the field by Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and an athletic trainer. It’s unclear whether Ohtani, the Dodgers’ designated hitter and the favorite for the National League MVP award, will be able to continue playing in the game.
The Dodgers led 4-1 at the time Ohtani was hurt.
A victory would leave the Dodgers halfway to their first championship in four years, and leave the New York Yankees desperate for a win in Game 3 Monday.
Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one hit in 6.1 innings, allowing a solo home run to Juan Soto for the Yankees’ only run.
