The final match in the legendary WWE career of John Cena has been made official. Cena will have his final professional wrestling match at “Saturday Night’s Main Event” on Dec. 13, and WWE held the Last Time is Now tournament to determine who his final opponent will be.
On Friday’s episode of “WWE SmackDown,” Gunther defeated LA Knight in the finals. “The Ring General” will face Cena inside Capital One Arena in Washington. Gunther had long been the favorite to be the last rival in Cena’s career.

John Cena Vows to Stay Retired
During the “Money in the Bank 2024” PLE, Cena announced his retirement tour. He said that “WrestleMania 41” would mark his last match at WWE’s biggest annual show, where he defeated Cody Rhodes to win the Undisputed WWE Championship. Cena has told several media outlets that he firmly plans to stay retired from in-ring action.
Cena also told Stephanie McMahon that he simply can’t prepare for matches in the gym as well as he used to. The Hollywood star admitted that he can’t do nearly the amount of intense weightlifting that he could during his prime years.
While time may have caught up to Cena in the ring, the future WWE Hall of Famer has garnered success throughout his retirement tour. There’s the aforementioned Undisputed WWE Championship victory over Rhodes back in April. Cena also won the WWE Intercontinental Championship against Dominik Mysterio in Boston.
Cena will not enter his retirement match with the Intercontinental gold, as he lost the title to Mysterio in a rematch at “Survivor Series.”
