The New York Yankees made the postseason this year, but were unable to make a deep run. With some big changes to the roster already, the Yankees have reportedly listened to teams interested in trading for Jazz Chisholm Jr.
Chisholm was acquired at the 2024 trade deadline and has become a star for the Yankees. However, he is one year away from free agency, and the Yankees may have reservations about paying him. This year, he became the third player in franchise history to post a season with at least 30 home runs and 30 stolen bases.
While he is one of their best players, Brian Cashman left the door open to trade him when talking to reporters on Dec. 11. On Friday, Yankees manager Aaron Boone spoke on his star second baseman’s name being in trade rumors.
“I do,” Boone told The Athletic’s Chris Kirschner when asked if he anticipates Jazz Chisholm Jr. being on the roster in 2026. “But again, you never know what’s going to happen as teams are maneuvering their rosters and whatever. I do expect him, but you never know what’s going to happen where teams match up on certain things, but, no, I’m planning on him being right in the middle of the lineup.”
While Boone might be planning to Chisholm in the fold, it’s hard to imagine the Yankees passing up a trade that would make them better next season.
Chisholm will not be an easy player to replace with an upgrade. The Yankees could consider trading him now to give George Lombard Jr. the keys to second base in 2027, but that would not make the Yankees a better team for next season. Chisholm had an .813 OPS and was an All-Star last season.
