The New York Yankees are slated to have an elite starting rotation but could still be looking to add to the group. The winter meetings could be a great opportunity to do that.
While Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodón are expected to miss the start of the season, when healthy, the Yankees figure to have Cole, Fried, Rodón, Cam Schlittler and Luis Gil. However, The Athletic’s Jim Bowden proposed the Yankees make this trade with the Milwaukee Brewers for Freddy Peralta:

- Brewers receive: RHP Will Warren and UTIL José Caballero
The Brewers picked up Peralta’s $8 million club option, but he is a clear trade candidate. He is a season away from free agency and figures to be outside of the Brewers’ tight budget. In the past, the Brewers have traded All-Star pitchers Josh Hader, Devin Williams and Corbin Burnes before free agency.
Peralta is a two-time All-Star coming off a career year. Losing him would be a huge blow, and the Brewers would want pieces who can help now and for years to come. Caballero would give them an option over Joey Ortiz if his offensive struggles continue. Caballero fits the Brewers’ identity, leading baseball in stolen bases last season.
Caballero also showed great improvement as a hitter with the Yankees, so perhaps all he needed was a change of scenery. Meanwhile, Warren would give the Brewers a young, controllable pitcher who has had some struggles. However, the Brewers have excelled at fixing pitchers in recent years.
The Yankees don’t necessarily need Peralta. However, their rivals, the Toronto Blue Jays, have been aggressive so far this offseason. The Blue Jays have signed Dylan Cease and agreed to sign Cody Ponce. Adding Peralta would help the Yankees match the aggressiveness of their rival.
