Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox Dream $70 Million Trade Target Reportedly Off Trade Block

A few weeks ago, rumors emerged the Milwaukee Brewers could be open to dealing away their All-Star closer Devin Williams this winter. Those rumors never really made much sense as Milwaukee still looks to contend, but there were still quite a few teams interested in Williams.
Teams like the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Boston Red Sox were all obvious landing spots for the Brewers closer, but Bob Nightengale of USA Today has reported Milwaukee will hold onto its closer until the All-Star break in 2025.
“The Milwaukee Brewers plan to hang onto closer Devin Williams until at least the All-Star break and will re-evaluate whether to keep him or trade him,” Nightengale wrote.

The Brewers are absolutely making the correct decision here. More than likely, they’ll be in contention at the trade deadline in 2025 and they’ll decide to hold onto Williams. They could even explore a contract extension with the star pitcher. Spotrac projects his next contract to be for five years, $70 million.
If the Brewers do end up wanting to move him before the deadline next season, they’ll have plenty of suitors to choose from. His market will be as hot, if not hotter than Tanner Scott’s was last season.
Expect to see the same group of teams pop up in the rumors including the Red Sox, Yankees, and Dodgers. Teams like the San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs, Toronto Blue Jays, and others could end up in these discussions if they’re in a position to win the division or compete for a postseason berth.
