Yankees Infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. ‘Displeased’ After Not Starting Game 1
New York Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. did not start in Game 1 against the Boston Red Sox. He was, however, called upon to pinch hit with the bases loaded and one out in the ninth against Aroldis Chapman where he subsequently flew out to Wilyer Abreu.
Chisholm’s behavior in the locker room afterwards told the rest of the story.

“Jazz Chisholm Jr. was clearly displeased about not being in the lineup tonight,” Yankees writer Chris Kirschner posted on X. “Had his back turned the entire interview as reporters asked about watching from the bench tonight. Said ‘I guess’ when asked if he was surprised that he wasn’t playing. When asked if he had a conversation with Boone, Jazz said, ‘It’s a little conversation after it. Not much. Just move forward after it.'”
In a big game like this, the best players want to be out there. It’s easy to understand Chisholm’s frustration with his manager, Aaron Boone, for not starting him.
Acting like a child in the locker room and not even facing reporters postgame is simply unacceptable. If Chisholm wants to make it clear he is angry and has no problem with voicing his frustration, then there isn’t any reason to hide his face.
Including tonight’s at-bat, Chisholm is 0-for-5 with three strikeouts and a walk against Red Sox starter Garrett Crochet. It’s not a large sample size, but Crochet thrives against left-handed batters. Boone made the right call with his starting lineup decision at second base.
