Yankees, Mets Reportedly Offer $710-Plus Million Contracts In Juan Soto Sweepstakes

Last week, the Juan Soto sweepstakes reportedly cleared the $600 million mark for the five teams (New York Yankees, New York Mets, Toronto Blue Jays, Boston Red Sox, and Los Angeles Dodgers) involved.

This bidding continued to quickly elevate, leaving many experts predicting Soto may actually land a contract that starts with a seven.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post recently reported that the Soto sweepstakes has eclipsed $700 million for at least two of the five teams. Heyman claims the Mets and Yankees, the two favorites, are somewhere in the $710 million to $730 million range.

“The Yankees and Mets both remain heavily involved in the five-team Juan Soto Derby, with both clubs recently upping offers into the $710 million-$730 million range — MLB record territory — as it’s believed the sweepstakes could be within a day or two of a historic conclusion,” Heyman wrote. “Both New York teams showed how serious they are with recent changes to offers, and both now have extended bids above Shohei Ohtani’s record $700 million deal. It is believed the Mets may be slightly higher as of Saturday night, but the respective offers appear to be within shouting distance.”

Soto is a generational talent who’s hitting free agency at the ripe age of 26. It’s no surprise he’s generating such an interest from these big market teams.

If the reports are true, the Dodgers should be close to dropping out of the race because there’s almost no feasible path for them to compete with bids near $730 million.

With the Yankees and Mets being “within shouting range,” as Heyman puts it, it’s hard to predict which way he would lean. The Mets, allegedly, are offering more money. But the Yankees have a better team and they sustained great success with Soto already.

Soto’s decision can’t come soon enough.
