Yogurt Sold at H-E-B Recalled for Undeclared Allergen

Massachusetts-based company PlantBased Innovations issued a voluntary recall on Friday of its Higher Harvest by H-E-B Dairy-Free Coconut Yogurt in strawberry flavor due to undeclared almond content.

The recall came after a customer complaint revealed an almond-containing product was distributed in packaging that failed to declare the allergen.

Newsweek has reached out to PlantBased Innovations via email on Saturday for comment.

Tree nuts, including almonds, are among the nine major food allergens as defined by law. The others are milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, peanuts, wheat, soybeans and sesame. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warns that people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to almonds “run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.”

Allergic reactions vary in severity from mild symptoms, such as hives and lip swelling, to life-threatening complications, such as anaphylaxis, that may include fatal respiratory problems.

This marks the second allergen-related recall at H-E-B within the past month, following a December 11 recall of Meal Simple Red Lentil Dal Soup for undeclared milk.

Friday’s recalled product was distributed to H-E-B locations after being shipped on November 24 through the retailer’s distribution centers to grocery stores across Texas. Consumers can identify the affected yogurt by its 5.3-ounce plastic cup with foil lid and a Best By date of January 2, 2026, printed on the bottom of the container.

PlantBased Innovations manufactures dairy-free yogurt products that are marketed as alternatives for consumers with dairy sensitivities or those following plant-based diets.

No illnesses or injuries have been reported in connection with this recall as of the announcement date.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled yogurt should check the Best By date on their product containers immediately. Those with the affected batch—particularly individuals with almond allergies or sensitivities—should not consume the product and should return it to their place of purchase for a full refund or dispose of it safely.

PlantBased Innovations has made customer service representatives available for questions at 978-600-0904, Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST, or via email at info@storebrandpartner.com.

The FDA will continue monitoring the recall to ensure all affected products are removed from distribution channels.
