Zelensky Issues China Demand After Russia’s Latest Deadly Strikes on Kyiv
🎙️ Voice is AI-generated. Inconsistencies may occur.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky demanded that China react to the latest Russian strikes on Kyiv, which he said had killed at least eight people, one of them a child, and left dozens more wounded and trapped under rubble.
“We expect a reaction from China to what is going on,” Zelensky said in a post on X on Thursday morning, August 28, accusing parts of the world of turning a blind eye to the deaths and making excuses for Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“China has repeatedly called for not expanding the war and for a ceasefire. Yet this is not happening because of Russia.”
Russia and China are strategic partners. China has helped the ailing Russian economy through biting Western sanctions with large-scale oil purchases.
The Kremlin says it wants to make peace, but has intensified its aerial attacks and pushes along the frontlines in Ukraine in recent weeks, rejecting calls for a ceasefire as it ekes out more territorial gains.
