Why Mariah Carey is ‘Devastated’ About Her Health
Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors
Mariah Carey’s holiday tour has been derailed again due to her health.
On Friday, December 13, the 55-year-old singer, who is sick with the flu, took to X (formerly Twitter) to let her fans know she would have to cancel her show that evening at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, and her concert on Sunday, December 15, at UBS Arena in Belmont Park, New York.
The “Always Be My Baby” singer expressed she was heartbroken about the situation, writing, “Newark and Belmont – I wish I had better news, but unfortunately, I’m still sick and have to cancel the shows tonight and on Sunday. I’m really devastated about it and appreciate your support. Love, MC, 💔.”

Carey’s fans, who dubbed her the “Queen of Christmas,” took to the comment section to wish her well and acknowledged her health is more important than performing.
“Feel better Mariah! Wishing you a speedy recovery. We love you MC! Get well soon Queen,” one fan wrote.
“There will be many more FESTIVE moments to share with us, Queen! Please take care of yourself and get well soon! YOU and YOUR health is what matters most! We love you! It’s still #MariahSZN You’ll always be the #QueenOfNewYork,” a user wrote.
“Ofc you have our FULL support!!! I love you endlessly, and I hope I can see you on the 17th, but prioritize your health always!!! Get well soon, Queen,” another fan commented.

The cancellation comes two days after the singer-songwriter announced she had the flu and called off her show in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania — three and a half hours before she was set to take the stage.
“Pittsburgh, I am sorry to say, I’ve come down with the flu. It breaks my heart that I unfortunately have to cancel tonight’s show. I love you all so much,” Carey posted via X on Wednesday, December 11.
Carey received some good news earlier in the week as her holiday anthem, “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” officially made the number one spot on the Billboard charts. The track has been in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 since 2019 during the holiday season.
