After being the NBA’s best team for the entire 2024-25 regular season, the Oklahoma City Thunder’s campaign is on the brink. The team is down two games to one against the Denver Nuggets, who fired their head coach about a month ago. Now, the Thunder are basically in a must-win situation on the road in Denver, facing a team with championship mettle.
Game 3 between these two teams was a classic. The game went to overtime, and Denver came out on top 113-104 behind 27 points and eight assists from former Kentucky standout Jamal Murray. Three-time league MVP Nikola Jokic had a tough outing shooting the ball, but even then, he still had 20 points, 16 rebounds, and six assists in Denver’s nine-point win.
Oklahoma City had a good chance to take Game 3 on the road, but 2024-25 MVP frontrunner Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had an uncharacteristically poor game, shooting seven-for-22 from the floor and going one-for-six from three. Gilgeous-Alexander, a nearly 90 percent shooter from the free-throw line this season, even missed two of his five free-throw attempts in the contest. The Thunder wasted a huge 32-point outing from Jalen Williams in the Game 3 defeat.
Tune in to ABC nationally at 3:30 p.m. ET on Sunday to find out if the Thunder can take a pivotal Game 4 on the road or if the Nuggets can get one step closer to booking a trip to the Western Conference Finals in a postseason in which few expected much from them.
