Bills’ Trade Deadline Plans Could Take Wild Twist After Latest Report

The Buffalo Bills got off to a 4-0 start this season, but they have lost a couple of games in a row as their obvious holes have become much more pronounced. Plus, let’s face it: the four teams the Bills beat have won a combined three games in 2025.

Buffalo needs help on both sides of the ball, but perhaps the Bills’ most prominent need is at wide receiver. Neither Khalil Shakir nor Keon Coleman is a No. 1 option. As good as Josh Allen is, he definitely needs some better weapons.

Could Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Brian Thomas Jr. be the answer before the trade deadline?

Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported on Saturday that the Jaguars are actually taking calls on Thomas, who has been struggling in his sophomore campaign. Russini qualified her statement by saying that a trade “feels highly unlikely,” but the fact that this is even a discussion means that Jacksonville is, at the very least, curious.

Should Thomas become available, the Bills should absolutely make a play for the LSU product, considering just how fantastic he was during his rookie campaign.

Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills

Thomas hauled in 87 receptions for 1,282 yards and 10 touchdowns last season, averaging a hefty 14.7 yards per catch and appearing to establish himself as one of the top up-and-coming pass-catchers in football. He made the Pro Bowl as a result, finishing fourth in Offensive Rookie of the Year voting.

However, through seven games in 2025, the former first-round pick has logged just 27 catches for 365 yards and a score, owning a catch rate of 49.1 percent. Of course, quarterback play has been a big reason for Thomas’ struggles. Trevor Lawrence has not been good this year, and it’s looking more and more like Lawrence is on his way to bust status.

Buffalo, on the other hand, has a superstar quarterback in Allen who is starving for a weapon like Thomas. Allen was able to win an MVP award last year in spite of not having a true No. 1 receiver at his disposal, so imagine what Allen could do with Thomas?

Remember: the Bills swung a trade for Amari Cooper prior to the deadline last season, but it didn’t exactly work out. In fact, Cooper retired before the 2025 campaign began.

Thomas would be a different story. He is just 23 years old and could form a lethal duo with Allen moving forward. He could also help catapult Buffalo into the Super Bowl this season.

We’ll see if the Bills pursue Thomas between now and Nov. 4.
