Europe’s Plan to Ditch US Weapons Spooks Pentagon: Report
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will warn European allies at a NATO meeting of foreign ministers that he expects them to continue buying American arms, Reuters reported.
It follows a European Union (EU) move to exclude non-European firms from weapons purchases by its members under an effort to rearm the continent.
Rubio will discuss American expectations that its firms will be included in EU weapons procurement with NATO allies in Brussels this week.
“It’s a point the secretary has raised and will continue to raise,” an unnamed State Department official told Reuters.
European officials told the publication that the U.S. had raised concerns with them about the exclusion in recent weeks, and that it would be taken negatively in Washington.
This is a developing story and more information will be added shortly.
