Giants’ Brian Daboll Could Face ‘Hefty’ Punishment From NFL

The New York Giants came away with their biggest win of the season thus far on Thursday night against the Philadelphia Eagles. However, for Giants head coach Brian Daboll, that win could very well come at a significant price following a controversial incident during the game.

Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart briefly exited Thursday’s game after sustaining an apparent head injury, which caused him to go into the blue medical tent and be evaluated.

This is where the controversy stems from, as both Giants running back Cam Skattebo and Brian Daboll would join Dart in the medical tent briefly, which is directly against the league’s protocol that only allows necessary medical personnel to be in the tent during an evaluation.

Dart would return to the game on the following Giants possession and help lead his team to a 34-17 victory, but Daboll’s actions may result in a significant penalty coming down from the NFL as a result.

While it’s unclear whether anything was said by Daboll to the medical team working on Dart to potentially help clear him to return, the NFL is currently investigating the situation in a joint investigation with the NFLPA.

According to Fox NFL insider Jay Glazer, the Giants are “bracing” for some kind of disciplinary actions to come down on Daboll, whether that be a “hefty” fine, a suspension, or potentially even a loss of draft picks. Though Glazer does view a fine as the most likely penalty to be handed down.

“The Giants are bracing for a fine as a result of this,” said Glazer. “Right now, there is a joint investigation between the NFL and the NFLPA. Curt, as you said, when it comes to concussion protocol, they don’t mess around. They already talked to Brian Daboll. I think in the end, look, he could be fined, suspension, or draft picks. I don’t see draft picks or a suspension. Just the fine.”

The severity of the penalty will likely depend on what Daboll may have said to the medical personnel working on Dart, which is still unclear at this time.

Regardless, this situation clearly takes away from what was otherwise a great day for the Giants, showing signs that they may be ready to compete in the NFC with Dart under center.
