PGA Tour Fan Favorite Takes a Shot at LIV Golf’s Bryson DeChambeau

The PGA Championship is underway on Thursday, but you wouldn’t be able to tell from the top of the leaderboard.

Some players that many golf fans may not be as familiar with, such as Ryan Gerard, are near the top of the leaderboard and have played some great golf during this first round at Quail Hollow while many of the game’s biggest stars have struggled.

It’s still early in the round for LIV Golf star Bryson DeChambeau after his afternoon tee time, but things aren’t looking good so far. The two-time U.S. Open champion is 1-over par through eight holes on the first nine despite a course that has been gettable for most of the day.

PGA Tour golfer Michael Kim, who has already signed for an even-par 71 for his first round, took a shot at DeChambeau and the LIV tour while he struggled at the start of his round.

“Give him time til tomorrow,” Kim wrote on X. “He’s not used to playing on Thursday.”

Of course, that is a shot at the 54-hole LIV Golf format, which starts on Fridays and plays just three rounds to determine a winner.

Kim has built a reputation for being candid and utilizes social media as much as anyone on Tour.

Maybe DeChambeau will come on later in the tournament, but with rounds of 66 and 67 already in the clubhouse on Thursday, he doesn’t have much margin to fall too far behind.

Quail Hollow should theoretically set up well for DeChambeau, who hits the ball as far or farther than anybody in the sport. With that skill, he should be able to have plenty of gettable approaches, but has not been able to take advantage so far.

Still, DeChambeau has the ability to turn it around within a round and especially over the course of 72 holes. He should not be counted out as a potential contender for the Wanamaker just yet.
