Chargers’ Justin Herbert to Undergo Procedure for Broken Bone

The Los Angeles Chargers picked up a big win against the Las Vegas Raiders, but it came at a high cost. During the game, star quarterback Justin Herbert was hit on a run, leading to him being pulled from the game. Now, it appears the injury he suffered will lead to surgery.

Herbert was in the locker room for several minutes, leading to backup quarterback Trey Lance coming in as relief. Initially, it was revealed that Herbert suffered an injury to his non-throwing hand, but he would return with a massive cast on the injured left hand.

The Chargers were able to steamroll the Raiders with a final score of 31-14. Even more important is that Los Angeles improved to 8-5, and are still squarely in the playoff conversation.

The issue is that the next week or so may be tough to deal with, considering Herbert suffered a significant injury.

Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh spoke to reporters about the injury and revealed that Herbert broke a bone in his hand. The quarterback is set to have a procedure to correct it on Monday.

Oddly enough, Harbaugh indicated he is unsure if Herbert will miss any time. The quarterback himself also spoke to reporters about the injury, stating, “I’m treating it as if I’m playing Monday.”

The good news is the Chargers will have a little extra time to prepare for their “Monday Night Football” game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Should the procedure that Herbert undergoes not be invasive, he may heal in time to simply wear a brace, similar to what he had on when he returned to the Raiders game. This is also not the first time he has hurt his non-throwing hand.

Herbert suffered a broken finger on his non-throwing hand in 2023, which ultimately led to season-ending surgery. The hope for the Chargers would be a similar fate does not befall him.

Currently, Herbert is not ruled out. However, things can change by the time the Eagles game comes around.
