When the Pittsburgh Steelers swung a trade to acquire wide receiver D.K. Metcalf in a deal with the Seattle Seahawks during the offseason, the general assumption was that Metcalf would rack up a ton of targets, particularly after the Steelers dealt away fellow receiver George Pickens.
However, that has not been the case.

Metcalf has been targeted just 47 times in eight games this season and is on pace for a career low in that category. Considering that the Steelers have major depth issues in their receiving corps, his lack of attention is definitely odd.
Furthermore, the 27-year-old managed just two catches on four targets in Pittsburgh’s win over the Indianapolis Colts last week.
So, what are Metcalf’s thoughts on his rather questionable role? He doesn’t seem to care.
“Y’all may get frustrated with that [expletive]. We don’t. We just trying to win,” Metcalf told reporters.
Metcalf has caught 29 passes for 467 yards and five touchdowns in 2025, averaging a very robust 16.1 yards per catch. He has just one 100-yard performance thus far this season, but he has definitely made the most of his touches.
The Ole Miss product was originally selected by the Seahawks in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft and spent six seasons in Seattle, making a couple of Pro Bowl appearances while posting three 1,000-yard campaigns. His best year came in 2020, when he hauled in 83 receptions for 1,303 yards and 10 scores.
However, Metcalf struggled with consistency with the Seahawks, and with the 6-foot-4 star coming up on the final year of his contract, Seattle decided to move him.

The Steelers sent a second-round pick back to the Seahawks in the trade and then handed Metcalf a five-year, $150 million extension, a deal that will take him through 2029.
Pittsburgh is 5-3 on the year and will face the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday night.
